FAQ
Why does it take so long?
I’m an independently published author. That means I write, edit, edit again, and again, and again, and then work on cover design, work with beta readers, illustrate, edit again, work on marketing copy, format the book to add illustrations and chapter breaks, try to update this website, and a whole lot more. In short, it’s intense—and a lot of fun. I’m by no means alone. I have a team of volunteers who help with proofreading and beta reading. But I don’t have a publishing house behind me. What’s kinda funny is that I often publish a bit faster than many of the big publishing houses. (Check out how traditionally published author Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series, answered the question: How Long Does It Take to Write A Book? )
If you’d like a detailed idea of all that’s involved in my writing and publishing process, check out my Zion National Park Progress Page.
How long does it take?
Book 1: About 18 months. It was my first book.
Book 2: About 10 Months.
Book 3: About 6 months.
Book 4: About 9 months.
Book 5: About 9 months.
Do you plan to write additional books after this 10-book series?
Yes, I’ll likely write a 3 to 5-book series set in the eastern states 🙂 One of them will definitely include Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
In the back of some of the books, it says that many of the books would have been published by now. Why can’t I find them?
One of my strengths–and faults–is that I set big goals for myself. It motivates me. But…sometimes those goals bend to the hard facts of reality. In other words, I can be a bit idealistic. If you’ve purchased one of the early versions of the books, the publication schedule I put in the back turned out to be just that: very unrealistic. I apologize if I got your hopes up. This publication schedule is my attempt to create a more dynamic (and hopefully, realistic) set of timelines. And by posting progress pages, you’ll be able to follow along.
